Render Cleaning

How much does render cleaning cost in the UK? (2026 guide)

Updated 6 November 2026 · By the Render Cleaning team

Short answer: In 2026, cleaning the render on a typical UK terraced or semi-detached house usually costs £300 to £600, and a detached house £600 to £1,200. Per square metre rates are typically £4 to £8, and a protective after-treatment usually adds around £1 to £3 per square metre.

Typical prices

JobTypical UK price (2026)
Render cleaning per m²£4 to £8
Single wall or gable end£150 to £350
Terraced or semi-detached house£300 to £600
Detached house£600 to £1,200
Large detached or three storeys£1,000 to £1,800
Protective after-treatment (per m²)£1 to £3
Re-rendering for comparison (per m²)£50 to £100 or more

These are typical guide prices. Your actual price depends on the wall area, height and access, how heavy the growth is, the render type and where in the UK the property is.

What affects the price

  • Wall area and number of elevations
  • Height, and whether a tower, scaffold or cherry picker is needed
  • How heavy the algae, mould or lichen growth is
  • Render type, as textured finishes such as pebbledash take longer
  • Rust or run-off stains that need separate treatment
  • Adding a protective treatment after cleaning

Cleaning versus repainting or re-rendering

If the render is sound and only stained, cleaning is by far the cheapest way to restore it. Repainting makes sense only for painted render that is flaking or faded, and re-rendering only where the render is cracked, hollow or failing.

How to get an accurate price

Send photos of each rendered wall, the render type if you know it, and how many storeys the house has. That is enough for a fixed price in most cases.
